Welcome to Alta Vista
A luxurious, nature-filled community with views of the city
Enjoying its proximity to both Downtown and Augusta Road, Alta Vista is one of Greenville’s most sought-after historic districts. This park-centric neighborhood is peaceful, with local business gems nestled along its edges. It’s steeped in class and nature and continues to grow better with time.
Alta Vista was once a beautiful, 39-acre estate. In the early 20th Century, its owner developed it into a suburb that was touted as “a beautiful location in the heart of the city.” Many of the homes here are on a knoll that looks over Downtown, which was a huge draw when the houses were first sold in the 1920s.
Development began in the 1920s, but homes continued to be built until after World War II. There are a variety of gorgeous styles throughout the neighborhood, from cozy bungalows to Tudors and Traditional single-family homes. A hallmark of the homes here is that they are set on large lots with stately trees giving them privacy from the streets.

Savor pizza, salads, and homemade ice cream at community-oriented Sidewall Pizza. Blockhouse Restaurant and Bar has been a Greenville favorite since the 1980s. They have fresh, succulent oysters, and all of their dishes are made from scratch. The Burrow is a favorite neighborhood bar with a high-end menu and one of the best brunches in Alta Vista.
L’s on Augusta is a consignment shop full of vintage and pre-owned items and local artisans. They’ve been a prominent part of the local shopping scene for over a decade, and they’re beloved by customers. Sam Pharmacy and Health Foods is not just the filler of your prescriptions. Things to Do
Alta Vista is a quick drive from Downtown for those looking for more exciting entertainment, but a huge draw of things to do within the neighborhood are the parks.
Sculptures and art installations grace the green of Cancer Survivor Park, where locals can go for a slice of peace and serenity. Falls Park is full of beautiful trails along the river that winds through gardens and pass by waterfalls and public art.
Nearby, Cleveland Park is a quintessential neighborhood park with tennis courts, a playground, and fitness trails winding throughout its 122 acres. Inside Cleveland Park, Rock Quarry Garden is a secluded landscape that is perfect for some deep thinking when it's not being used for photo shoots or weddings.
