Overbrook

The area is great because of its quiet charm, community programs, friendly neighbors, thriving local businesses and restaurants, and abundant green spaces.

Welcome to Overbrook

A historic neighborhood steeped in a quiet charm

Overbrook Historic District is the quaint, historic neighborhood that dreams are made of. It’s a quiet community close to Downtown that is full of suburban charm. The area is great for families because of its excellent schools, community programs, and friendly neighbors.

With the growth of the Greenville trolley line, Overbrook was developed as a middle-class neighborhood further from the city center. It was one of the earliest suburbs of Greenville, and it attracted residents who wanted easy access to the city without having to live within its borders.

Because its early residents were well-off businessmen, Overbrook is populated with larger homes and Craftsman-Bungalow architecture. The residences here are older, and many have been renovated but still remain deeply rooted in the neighborhood’s history and charming atmosphere.

What to Love

It’s an easy commute to the more bustling neighborhoods, but there are still plenty of amenities just down the street for those who want to stay close to home.

Things to Do

The Overbrook community is significantly enhanced by its array of green spaces, parks, and the popular Swamp Rabbit Trail, which now extends further into the area. These natural and recreational assets provide residents with crucial opportunities for outdoor activity, relaxation, and social interaction, contributing to improved physical and mental well-being. Timmons Park, a large city park, offers diverse amenities including a disc golf course, athletic fields, and playgrounds, serving as a major recreational hub. Smaller, neighborhood-focused green spaces like Hessie T. Morrah Park and the charming Railroad Mini Park provide accessible spots for leisure and connection. Furthermore, the David Hellams Community Center & Arthur Black Park offers both indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, fostering community engagement and vital programs. Collectively, these green havens and the extended trail connectivity significantly boost Overbrook's quality of life. Enhancing this further, the Greenville City website notes that sidewalks and other pedestrian infrastructure are in progress for Keith Dr. and Lowndes Hill Rd., promising even easier access to the Swamp Rabbit Trail Extension. Moreover, the Swamp Rabbit Trail Orange Line Extension is set to connect Overbrook to North Main and Downtown, further promoting a vibrant, healthy, and interconnected neighborhood.
